Making waves in menswear

Whilst established designers deserve their share of the limelight, these up-and-coming menswear designers also warrant some attention.
We’ve hand-picked a few of our favourite emerging designers in the industry, covering casual, street and formal wear. Check out these fresh and exciting labels that are making waves across the world.
London based label, Tobias, is an ethical fashion brand focused on comfortable and stylish casual shirts. Founded in 2011, Tobias creates high quality linen and cotton shirts, each with unique cuffs that embrace the prints and colours of India.
This brand earns extra points for donating 10% of the profit from each sale to the Akanksha Foundation to help educate underprivileged slum children in Mumbai - a cause dear to its founder, Daisy.
New York’s Daniel DuGoff launched DDUGOFF aiming to fill what he saw as a void in the modern man’s wardrobe – unbasic basics. Taking essential wardrobe staples such as sweat-pants, sweaters and t-shirts and re-working the design to elevate a basic has DDUGOFF receiving kudos within the industry.
Whether his pieces are worn for relaxing, simple streetwear or something smarter for the office, DDUGOFF’s pieces are designed to translate across the board.
Reef Knots
Reef Knots, founded by London-based Patrick Dudley Williams, offers beautiful, handmade silk ties using traditional screen-printing techniques. The ties are inspired by the summertime and the ocean, which is clear throughout the range of simple, yet elegant designs.
Williams, who says he wanted to make “ties that reminded people of life outside of their suit, rather than being a symbol of the corporate grind”, has received widespread recognition as industry leaders, politicians and celebrities don his creations.
Tim Coppens
Tim Coppens AW 16:
Right from his brand launch, Belgian designer Tim Coppens has received strong support and praise from both retailers and press. The energy of the city and street culture are cited as inspiration behind his label, and are present throughout the designs.
Recently brought in by US sports clothing company Under Armour as the executive creative director for its new UAS collection, it’s clear what the fuss is about. A blend of craftsmanship, tailoring and athletic references, Coppens’ brand gives an edge to wardrobe staples.
Above all, Outclass aims for top quality with each and every item from their label. This Canadian brand brings a unique take to classic staples, sourcing fabrics from some of the world’s finest mills.
Working with some of Canada’s best manufacturers, Outclass ensures its high standards are kept throughout the production process. Revising classic styles with quality materials and a preference for natural fibres, Outclass creates designs that can be worn again and again.
Fingers Crossed
Designer Ryu Hayama, found his true calling within fashion as he pursued a design career in New York city. He draws inspiration for his designs partly due to his mechanical engineering background and honed his skills whilst working for Cloak, Ralph Lauren, and Marc Jacobs before establishing his own label, Fingers Crossed.
Hayama approaches his work with the goal of achieving a perfect union of form and function, producing pieces that are effortlessly cool and comfortable.
